Named after the Canterbury-based composer William Flackton (1709-1798), Flackton Duo was formed in 2005 to explore music for the viola and harpsichord. Their repertoire extends from the original Baroque works including the first English sonatas to be written specifically for the viola by Flackton himself, to compositions written in the twentieth- and twenty-first centuries. In 2009, composer Simon Speare wrote Pygmalion and Galatia for them which they premiered in the series “Music by the Commons” in Wimbledon, and Aziza Sadikova is currently writing Prelude for viola and harpsichord.
Flackton Duo has performed in venues as diverse as churches, art galleries and pubs as well as at weddings. They made their Australian debut in August 2006.
